Nepean Gorge 9.30 for 10 am on the water.
A trip which is suitable for all paddlers’ and types of boats. We’ll paddle up the Nepean into the gorge, with a break for lunch, and possibly a swim, and then back to our put in point. The group will determine the length and pace of the paddle.
For new members without a boat this is an opportunity to come on a club trip. Arrangements can be made to collect and return a club Platypus, plus PFD and paddle. Use will be on a ‘first in, best dressed’ basis and the gear will have to be collected on the Saturday.

Flatwater skills training day – 8.30 for 9.00 am on the water.
Essential training for all new kayakers or a refresher for the more experienced.
Flatwater Basic Skills – starting 9 am.
An essential for all new kayakers looking to develop their skills. This is the perfect skills training to help make your paddling safer and learn some “technique”.
This assumes no or limited prior knowledge and will show you the basics of kayaking like forward, backward, side sculling strokes and exiting your boat safely in a capsize and more.
This is also chance to ask questions about other kayaking techniques from an Australian Canoeing instructor and experienced club members.
Completing this course also means those attending have attained Australian Canoeing Flatwater Basic Skills Certification.
Flatwater Deep Water Rescue Training – starting 11 am
Learn how to empty a capsized kayak on the water, how to get back in your boat after emptying it and a thing or two more.
This is essential training for all flatwater paddlers and those having just done the Basic Skills training should stay on for this training as well. Experienced paddles should also come along and refresh their skills.
These training sessions would each cost $90 plus from any of the commercial operators in and around Sydney, but as a Rivers Canoe Club member all this comes as part of your annual fee.
Arrangements can be made to collect and return a club Platypus, plus PFD and paddle. Use will be on a ‘first in, best dressed’ basis and the gear will have to be booked with the organiser.
The skills covered at these sessions are also a prerequisite for new members with no previous or limited kayaking experience seeking to come on some of the more advanced club trips.
A minimum of 5 paddlers is required to run this course. Please contact the trip co-coordinator at least one week in advance so numbers can be confirmed.
Meet at the northern side of the Kyeemagh Baths, Cook Park, Kyeemagh (Gregory’s Map Reference 404 D14).

Weekend at Basil’s.
A weekends camping in Basil’s backyard, 2 Koala Close Norah Head, 11/2 hours up the coast. If you get there early on the Friday night you could score one of his spare beds.
Tracy and Andrew Bovis will assist Basil with the paddling options for the weekend. Either the surf for whitewater paddlers or the nearby lakes for the flatwater brethren. A sea paddle could also be undertaken. There is also the opportunity to split into groups depending on what members what to do, for example long boaters could head for the lake while short boaters go surfing.
What we do will be up to the weather and sea conditions and the numbers/skills of paddlers coming along for a weekend not to be missed. If you cannot make it for the whole weekend why not come up on Saturday or Sunday for a day’s paddling.

Barrington River:
Introduction to moving water for paddlers interested in developing their kayaking skills conducted on basic grade 1 and 2 whitewater. This training also further develops flatwater paddling skills and boat control, not to mention boat exiting and re-entry. Whitewater paddling techniques. Including, basic river reading, strokes, eddying in and out, whitewater equipment and safety.
A different but very worthwhile way of developing skills and possibly a start to a moving water love affair. Bring your non-paddling family – it’s a great swimming spot, nestled amongst the Casuarinas.
Equipment: you will need a whitewater boat, paddle, skirt, PFD and helmet is essential. (Dont go out and buy all the equipment listed for whitewater paddling till you have fallen in love). The club has some equipment for hire for $50/weekend and other arrangements can be made with local suppliers at Gloucester (3 1/2 hours north from Sydney).
Camping: you will need to bring your own tent, folding chair and food/drinks/water, there are no shops close by, and the toilets are pretty rudimentary.
The camp is at Bindera ($5/night) the last farm on the road about 20 km up from the Barrington Bridge. Specific directions will be provided to participants.

Jervis Bay Paddle and Camping Weekend
Come down for two days of paddling in and around Jervis Bay, dinners at the local and (probably) luxury waterfront sites at the Jervis Bay Caravan Club, Wollamia, for this weekend.
A local paddler will help us to read the weather to decide the options of either the surf for whitewater paddlers or the Bay for the flatwater brethren. An outside sea paddle could also be undertaken. Trips will be selected on the day and will depend on the weather, paddling conditions and numbers/paddling skills of those coming.
There is also the opportunity to split into groups depending on what members what to do, for example long boaters could head for the lake while short boaters go surfing.
Please contact the trip co-coordinator at least two weeks in advance so numbers can be confirmed and camp site bookings can be arranged.

Tallowa Dam to Fossickers Flat – 9.00 for 9.30 am on the water
Arguably the most picturesque and sensually pleasing flatwater in NSW (source: Canoeing Guide to NSW, pg 196) and fully agreed to by all members who have done this trip.
This is an overnight flatwater trip suitable for all levels with a leisurely 3~4 hour paddling each day including breaks. Bring all you need in your kayak to camp in a secluded glen beside the rived on Saturday night.
For those who want to be there in plenty of time, or just want a good time, why not come done and stay in the camping (camping or van hire) area at Kangaroo Valley on Friday night and share a meal and excellent wines at the local pub.
Due to space limitations at Saturday campsite numbers are limited to a maximum if 12 small tents (if mixed say 3~4 doubles and 8~9 singles).
Please contact the trip co-coordinator at least two weeks in advance so numbers can be confirmed and any camp site or van bookings can be arranged.
This weekend will also be for PaddleNSW members to come along as part of the inter-club recreational paddling program.
